No longer science fiction: Xpeng's flying car

Why do we need a Lexus LX if we can buy a car and a helicopter at the same time? Xpeng's unique development is a modular flying car that can be charged on the go.

At the recent Zhuhai Air Show, Xpeng AeroHT presented its latest achievement - the modular flying vehicle Land Aircraft Carrier, nicknamed the "Land Aircraft Carrier". This project brings the dream of flying cars to life, offering not only high-tech solutions, but also ease of operation.

Land Aircraft Carrier consists of two parts:

1. Mothership is the main carrier vehicle.

2. A flying module that performs the functions of a drone with a cockpit.

Mothership - this 5.5 meter long three-axle platform is equipped with a Kunpeng EREV hybrid powertrain, allowing it to cover up to 1000 km in hybrid mode. The car is built on an 800-volt platform, which ensures fast charging and high efficiency.

The module is a drone with a cabin for two passengers. It is launched by pressing one button, and removal from the luggage compartment takes only 5 minutes. When fully charged, it is capable of 5-6 short flights (the exact time is not specified), and the charge can be restored from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes using the Mothership.

During the presentation, the flying module demonstrated its capabilities in fully autonomous mode: takeoff, flight, descent and landing. The device also supports manual control, which is simplified thanks to the single-lever system. According to the company, only three hours are enough to learn how to operate this device.

The module has two operating modes:

- Automatic mode: routes are planned in advance, the flight is carried out on cruise control, and if necessary, the module returns to base.

- Manual mode: suitable for experienced pilots or, if necessary, for performing non-standard maneuvers.

The presented prototype immediately aroused interest: at the time of presentation, the company had already received 3,000 pre-orders. The cost of the model is about 280,000 dollars (approximately 28 million rubles).

The Xpeng company is actively preparing for mass production. The plant, with a production capacity of up to 10,000 units per year, will begin operations in 2026.

Initially, the Xpeng concept envisaged the creation of a hybrid of a car and a helicopter, but this option was abandoned: vibrations from driving on roads could reduce the reliability of the design. In the current version, the “Land Aircraft Carrier” has become modular, which allows you to combine the comfort of a ground vehicle and the functionality of a drone.

Land Aircraft Carrier is not just an engineering miracle, but a step towards creating a new transport ecosystem. In the near future, such technologies may change the way we look at movement, making cities three-dimensional.

Land carrier Xpeng demonstrates that the future is closer than it seems. Ease of operation, flexibility of use and high market interest confirm that this project can become the basis of a new transport reality. Perhaps, in a few years, flying cars will cease to be exotic and will become a familiar element of city life.
