The Nissan plant in St. Petersburg may start producing cars of the Chinese concern FAW. Recall that the Japanese manufacturer recently transferred its Russian site to the state ownership of Russia. And now other companies have the right to use it.

As Vedomosti writes with reference to two sources familiar with the plans of the authorities, the main candidate for the vacant Nissan plant turned out to be the FAW concern. KAMAZ is likely to act as an intermediary between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Chinese, as in the case of the Moskvich plant in Moscow, although there are still other options.

As for FAW, according to sources, cooperation is being discussed, but it is not known at what stage the negotiations are at at the moment. Previously, FAW assembled X80 crossovers at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad using a large-node method. Currently, there are only exported models in the brand's line. In addition to the X80, it is a compact suv X40 and a novelty Bestune T77.

In China and some other countries, the FAW concern presents its models under three brands – actually, FAW, Bestune and Hongqi. The latter brand, as previously written by "Chinese cars", is already engaged in the certification of cars for Russia. There were rumors that the premium brand would consider the issue of localization of production.

It should be noted that the deal between Nissan and FSUE NAMI, which will acquire the plant for a symbolic cost, will be closed in November. At the same time, as Interfax clarifies, the Japanese have the right to buy back their assets within six years. Whether such an option will suit a new potential production operator is unknown. Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the company will retain "key competencies, production cycle and jobs." At the same time, it was clarified that "NAMI has the opportunity to attract other companies as production partners, to create joint ventures." Experts assumed that some electric vehicles would be produced in St. Petersburg.
