The Jaecoo J5 compact crossover will debut in Russia in 2025 with impressive equipment and an all-wheel drive version, which is rare in the segment. Find out how it will surprise your competitors.
In the automotive world, 2025 will be marked by the emergence of a new interesting player in the B-SUV segment. Jaecoo J5, a compact crossover from Chery's subsidiary brand, has officially debuted, and its Russian premiere is scheduled for the first half of 2025. This is the third and youngest model of the Jaecoo brand, which will compete with such popular representatives of the segment as Haval Jolion, Chery Tiggo 4 and Geely Coolray.
Jaecoo J5 is made in the style of its older brother Jaecoo J7, which is reflected in the characteristic radiator grille with vertical bars and proprietary lighting equipment. However, the new crossover also offers its own features: single-stage front optics and traditional door handles instead of modern sliding mechanisms. The J5 measures 4380mm in length, 1860mm in width and 1650mm in height with a wheelbase of 2610mm, making it comfortable for urban environments and spacious enough for family trips. Ground clearance of 190 mm provides decent maneuverability.
One of the distinctive features of the exterior is the panoramic roof with an area of 1.45 square meters. m, which, according to the company, is a record in its class. The 480-litre boot is impressively spacious, especially compared to rivals such as the Haval Jolion with 337 litres. When the rear seats are folded down, the luggage compartment volume increases to an impressive 1180 liters.
The interior of the J5 is somewhat reminiscent of the Jaecoo J7, but with noticeable improvements and elements of originality. The main feature of the interior is the vertical 13.2-inch screen of the multimedia system, which smoothly transitions into the central tunnel. The latter houses only a pair of cup holders and wireless charging pads. The transmission is controlled using a steering column lever instead of a traditional selector.
In front of the driver there is a new two-spoke steering wheel with an original beveled lower part. The seats are made of materials that are stain-resistant and easy to clean.
Jaecoo J5 offers rich equipment: dual-zone climate control with antibacterial filter, heated front seats, steering wheel and windshield, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as many systems security.
The basic version of the Jaecoo J5 will be equipped with the familiar 1.5-liter Chery turbo engine combined with a CVT. In Russian conditions, such an engine most often has a power of 147 hp, and the drive is front-wheel drive. But the exact figure has not yet been revealed. A more powerful modification will receive a 1.6-liter turbo engine (197 hp and 290 Nm) coupled with a 7-speed “robot” with two wet clutches. However, probably in Russia its power will be reduced to 150 hp. The declared average fuel consumption is from 7.2 liters per 100 km.
Jaecoo J5 stands out among its competitors by having an all-wheel drive version, which is extremely rare in this segment. The car also features additional options: the ability to install a towbar (with a towing capacity of up to 1250 kg) and a roof rack with a load of up to 75 kg.
With a price target of around 2.5 million rubles, the Jaecoo J5 promises to be a tempting offer for those looking for a well-equipped, economical and stylish urban crossover with an impressive list of options and quality execution.
