Moskvich M70 or Changan Uni-T: comparison of crossovers in numbers

Moskvich M70 and Changan Uni-T are two front-wheel drive crossovers that are offered for close money, but are designed for different audiences. Moskvich relies on space, comfort and a powerful 2.0 engine, while Changan attracts with its bright design, precise handling and lower fuel consumption.

Briefly about the models

Moskvich M70 is the Russian version of the Roewe RX5, which is known on the European market as MG HS. Changan Uni-T is an original Chinese crossover with a spectacular appearance and sporty chassis settings. In the future, its technical basis may be released in Europe under the Osca MT6 brand.

Both cars have front-wheel drive, a gasoline turbo engine and an automatic transmission. But in character they are noticeably different: the M70 is more aimed at family use, and the Uni-T is aimed at the driver who cares about design and active driving.

Technical characteristics

Parameter | Changan Uni-T | Moskvich M70
Engine | 1.5 turbo | 2.0 turbo
Power | 167 l. With. | 200 l. With.
Torque | 280 Nm | 380 Nm
Gearbox | 7-speed robot | 9-speed automatic
Drive | Front | Front
Acceleration 0–100 km/h | 10.5 sec | 7.5 s according to manufacturer
Top speed | 205 km/h | 220 km/h
Fuel consumption | 6.5 l/100 km | 8.7 l/100 km
Clearance | 180 mm | 180 mm
Trunk volume according to measurements | 280 l | 332 l
Wheel size | 245/45 R20 | 225/55 R19
Fuel reserve | 55 l | 65 l

Dynamics and fuel consumption

The main advantage of the Moskvich M70 is its more powerful engine. The two-liter turbo engine develops 200 horsepower and 380 Nm, so the crossover accelerates more confidently when overtaking and fully loaded. The nine-speed automatic shifts smoothly and better suits the car's relaxed, family-friendly nature.

Changan Uni-T is equipped with a 1.5 Turbo engine with 167 horsepower. It is noticeably more economical: the stated average consumption is 6.5 liters per 100 km versus 8.7 liters for the M70. In addition, Changan allows the use of AI-92–95 gasoline, while AI-95 is recommended for Moskvich.

In urban mode, the advantage in consumption can become significant, especially with a large annual mileage. However, on the highway and when fully loaded, the M70's traction reserve is more noticeable.

Control and comfort

Changan Uni-T behaves more interestingly in turns. The steering wheel responds quickly, and the suspension provides better body control during active driving. The sporty character is supported by large 20-inch wheels and seats with developed lateral support.

The downside of this setting is a stiffer ride. On rough roads, the Uni-T transmits bumps more strongly into the cabin, and the wide tires are noticeably noisy on the highway.

Moskvich M70 is softer. It goes over speed bumps, joints and large bumps more calmly, and there is a better sense of space in the cabin. In terms of noise insulation and ride comfort, the M70 is more suitable for long trips and family use.

Interior and equipment

In Changan Uni-T the interior looks more modern and emotional. The center console is oriented towards the driver, and the front seats resemble sports buckets. Useful features include a built-in video recorder and Apple CarPlay.

The Moskvich M70 has a more practical interior. The second row has more space for passengers, ventilation deflectors, heated rear seats and two USB ports. Surround cameras provide better images, and physical buttons make it easier to control basic functions while on the move.

Trunk and practicality

For everyday use, the M70 turns out to be more convenient. According to measurements, the Moskvich trunk holds 332 liters, while the Changan Uni-T has 280 liters. The difference is especially noticeable when traveling with family or transporting large luggage.

The Uni-T has a developed underground trunk and a 12 V socket. Therefore, its space is rationally organized, but in terms of overall capacity it is inferior to the M70.

Geometric cross-country ability

Both crossovers have a ground clearance of 180 mm and front-wheel drive. This is enough for driving on dirt roads, snow-covered yards and country roads, but you shouldn’t count on serious off-road conditions.

Parameter | Changan Uni-T | Moskvich M70
Clearance | 180 mm | 180 mm
Approach angle | 17.5° | 20.0°
Departure angle | 15.5° | 19.5°
Longitudinal flotation angle | 28.0° | 30.5°

Thanks to better geometry, the M70 more confidently overcomes steep ramps, curbs and uneven driveways. At the same time, owners of both models should take care of engine protection in advance and choose their route more carefully.

Warranty and service

Parameter | Changan Uni-T | Moskvich M70
Maintenance frequency | 10,000 km or 12 months | 10,000 km or 12 months
Warranty | 5 years or 150,000 km | 3 years or 100,000 km
Dealer network | 190 centers | 56 centers

In terms of warranty and the number of dealer centers, the advantage remains with Changan Uni-T. For residents of the regions, this is an important factor: the availability of service is sometimes no less important than engine power or trunk volume.

What to choose?

The Moskvich M70 is suitable if you need a spacious interior, a powerful engine, a comfortable suspension, a spacious trunk and confident body geometry.

Changan Uni-T is worth considering if eye-catching design, sporty settings, an economical engine, modern seats and a longer warranty are important.

At a similar price, the Moskvich M70 looks like a more universal choice. It's faster, more spacious, more comfortable and better suited for family travel. The Changan Uni-T wins over handling, design and economy, but its stiff suspension, small boot and lower traction reserve can make a difference in daily use.

If you need a car primarily for the city and long trips with your family, it is more rational to choose the Moskvich M70. If the priority is style, maneuverability and lower fuel consumption, the Changan Uni-T will be more interesting.
