Is it worth buying a Chinese car in 2025? Pros and cons

In 2025, Chinese cars offer outstanding value for money, technology and equipment, and their assembly in Russia ensures the availability of spare parts and service.

Even five years ago, the question of buying a Chinese car aroused skepticism among many: “Is it reliable?”, “Will there be spare parts?”, “Will it break down in a year?” Today, in 2025, the situation has changed dramatically. Chinese brands - from Chery and Geely to BYD and Haval - not only occupied a significant share of the Russian market, but also became a symbol of a new stage in the automotive industry: technologically advanced, affordable and focused on the real needs of the buyer. However, the final decision still requires a balanced approach. So is it worth choosing a Chinese car today? Let's look at it honestly - without prejudice and without excessive enthusiasm.

The main advantage is the ratio of price and equipment. For the amount that previously could have bought a basic Korean or Japanese crossover, today you can buy a Chinese car with leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, a digital instrument panel, advanced driver assistance systems (including adaptive cruise and lane keeping), a 360° camera and even auto-parking functions. At the same time, the design of Chinese cars has ceased to be “borrowed” - it has become recognizable, modern and often even bold.

The second important advantage is localization and accessibility. Most popular models (Chery Tiggo, Geely Coolray, Haval Jolion, Omoda C5 and others) are assembled in Russia - in Kaliningrad, Tula, near St. Petersburg. This not only reduces costs, but also guarantees stable supplies, fast service and availability of spare parts. Official dealers are actively developing service networks even in the regions, and a 5-year warranty has become the norm, not a marketing ploy.

The third argument is technology. Chinese manufacturers today are not just catching up, but often ahead of competitors in the integration of artificial intelligence, over-the-air (OTA) updates, autopilot systems and electric vehicles. BYD, NIO, XPeng and other brands are turning the car into a “smart device on wheels,” and these technologies are gradually reaching mid-price segment models.

However, there are also disadvantages - or, more precisely, nuances that are worth considering.

Firstly, not all brands are equally reliable. The market is overflowing with offers, and along with proven players (Chery, Geely, Haval, BYD), new brands are appearing that do not yet have either a history or a service base. When buying a “gray” or little-known car, you may encounter difficulties in diagnosing, lack of original spare parts and lack of support in the future.

Secondly, build quality can still vary. Although large brands have achieved an impressive level comparable to their Korean and even European counterparts, the difference is sometimes felt in the little things.

Thirdly, resale value. Despite the increase in confidence, Chinese cars are still losing value faster than Japanese or German ones. This is important if you plan to replace your car every 2-3 years. However, with long-term operation, this factor loses importance.

And yet, in 2025, a Chinese car is no longer a compromise, but a conscious choice. It is suitable for those who value modern technology, comfort and a reasonable price. It is especially relevant in conditions where access to Western brands is limited, and the need for reliable, functional and beautiful transport remains high.

If you choose an officially presented model from a trusted brand, enter into an agreement with an authorized dealer and do not chase the cheapest package, the risks are minimized. And in return, you get a car that makes you happy every day: in appearance, in content, and in the absence of surprises in the service.

So yes - in 2025, buying a Chinese car is not only possible, but also reasonable. The main thing is to do this consciously, based on facts, and not on ten-year-old stereotypes.
