Chery has a diesel-electric pickup truck with a name from Suzuki

Chery introduced a new Stockman pickup truck with a hybrid diesel engine, frame structure and off-road capabilities.

New pickup truck for the global market

Chery presented the first images of a new pickup truck aimed at export markets. The debut site will be Australia, where the model will be released under the name Stockman - this name was previously used by Suzuki for a pickup truck based on the Jimny.

The new product demonstrates Chery’s desire to strengthen its position in the utilitarian car segment outside of China.

Off-road design

The appearance of Chery Stockman is made in a brutal style with a clear emphasis on off-road capabilities. The pickup truck received a rectangular front part, round retro-lights and massive bumpers with protective elements.

In style, the model is partially reminiscent of the Kia Tasman, but has a more pronounced utilitarian orientation. The image is complemented by a plastic body kit around the perimeter of the body and emphasized off-road proportions.

Interior and equipment

The salon is designed in a modern but practical style. Inside there are two large displays and a steering wheel with an original two-spoke design.

Features include large ventilation deflectors with decorative trim and physical control buttons, which are likely responsible for the climate system and transmission modes.

Technology and capabilities

Chery Stockman is built on a frame platform, which makes it a full-fledged SUV with high structural strength. The length of the car reaches 5450 mm, and the load capacity is stated at about one ton.

The pickup will receive plug-in all-wheel drive with three locks and a set of off-road modes, which allows you to confidently use it off-road.

The main feature will be a hybrid power plant with a 2.5-liter diesel engine. Later, a more traditional petrol version will appear in the line-up.

Reaction and context

The use of the Stockman name did not go unnoticed: the Australian division of Suzuki reacted positively to the choice of name, noting its recognition and durability.

The pickup truck project fits into Chery's broader strategy to enter new markets and develop a global platform. In the future, the company's technologies can be used by other manufacturers - for example, in India, where cooperation with the Tata concern is being discussed.
