XPeng P7+: how the Chinese electric sedan overtook everyone - even Tesla

The XPeng P7+ became the best-selling electric sedan in 2025, beating even the Tesla Model 3 thanks to its range of up to 700 km, the advanced XNGP autopilot system with lidar and a premium interior.

Just a couple of years ago, the market for electric sedans seemed to have a monopoly: if you wanted a premium, technologically advanced and fast electric car with a range of 500 km, there was only one choice - Tesla Model 3. The rest were inferior in terms of dynamics, charging or equipment. But in 2025 everything changed. Unexpectedly for many, the XPeng P7+, a Chinese electric sedan, which not only competes with the American, but has become the absolute sales leader among all electric sedans, rose to the top of the ratings.

And this is not a marketing splash, but the result of a thoughtful strategy: the ideal combination of design, technology, range and, most importantly, affordable price. While Tesla raised the price and curtailed local support, XPeng took a different route - adapted the model to local roads and offered the buyer the maximum for reasonable money.

P7+ is not just an updated version of P7. The new X-EEA 3.0 platform, which increased body rigidity, improved weight distribution and lowered the center of gravity. Battery - 86.4 kWh (on basic versions) or 101.6 kWh (on maximum trim levels), with support for charging up to 80% in 25 minutes at 350 kW stations. The range on the WLTP cycle is up to 700 km, and in real conditions (including winter) it is a stable 550–600 km, which is enough even for traveling between regions without constantly searching for chargers.

But the main advantage of the P7+ is not the numbers, but the intelligence. The XNGP (eXperimental Navigation Guided Pilot) system is one of the most advanced in the world. Unlike Tesla autopilot, which operates in “limited assistance” mode, XNGP can already:
— independently leave the yard and plot a route around the city,
— recognize traffic lights, pedestrians and cyclists in any weather,
— change lanes in front of a traffic jam, go around construction sites and park without human intervention.

It all works thanks to lidar, 12 cameras, 5 radars and a powerful XPU processor, which is trained on data from millions of kilometers traveled by XPeng machines around the world.

The P7+ salon is minimalism with soul. There are no physical buttons, but there is a 15-inch central screen, digital instrumentation and even a head-up display on the windshield. Materials: soft leather, recycled fabrics, brushed metal. The sound is a 20-speaker system, manually tuned to the interior acoustics. And most importantly, the voice assistant “Xiao P”, which understands natural speech, remembers preferences, answers complex queries (“Find a cafe with a children’s area and electric charging”) and even jokes. At the same time, all software is regularly updated “over the air” - the machine becomes smarter over time. XPeng gives you more equipment from the factory: adaptive suspension, panoramic roof, 360° camera, climate control for rear passengers and even a “cinema” mode where the seats recline, the screen lowers, and the audio system creates an immersive effect.

The result was not long in coming. As of October 2025, the XPeng P7+ ranks first among electric sedans in terms of the number of registrations, surpassing not only Tesla, but also Chinese competitors like BYD Seal and Zeekr 001.

XPeng proved that you don't have to be first to win. You need to be smarter, more generous and closer to the client. And if the trend continues, the P7+ will become not just a sales leader, but a new standard for an electric sedan - Chinese, but without compromise.
