Changan will set up assembly of the Uni-T crossover in Russia, but temporarily

Changan and Avtotor have prepared a temporary localization of the Uni‑T coupe-shaped crossover in Kaliningrad: the OTTS will be issued until April 2027, the equipment and equipment will retain the Chinese standard.

Temporary localization of Uni-T on Avtotor

The Changan company plans to localize the assembly of the Uni-T crossover at the facilities of the Kaliningrad Avtotor, as evidenced by the vehicle type approval (OTTS) for a Russian-assembled car. In the document, Avtotor-Avtotrans is listed as both the applicant and the manufacturer, while Changan is the supplier of components, which is typical for a large-unit assembly scheme.

The validity period of the OTTS is limited to April 2027 - noticeably shorter than many other projects that are certified for a longer period. This suggests that we are talking about a trial, relatively small batch of Uni‑T assembled in Kaliningrad, based on the results of which the parties will decide on the further scale of localization.

Dimensions and technology: no changes compared to import

According to certification documents, the localized Uni‑T completely replicates the technology and dimensions of imported Chinese-made machines. The length of the crossover is 4515 mm, width - 1870 mm, height - 1565 mm, and the wheelbase is 2710 mm; curb weight - up to 1540 kg, permissible - 1840 kg.

Under the hood is the familiar 1.5-liter BlueCore petrol turbo engine with 167 hp. and a torque of 280 Nm, meeting the Euro-5 environmental standard and allowing the use of AI-92 gasoline. It is paired with a 7-band robotic automatic transmission with two “wet” clutches, that is, the Russian assembly does not bring any surprises in terms of the power plant.

Equipment of a localized crossover

The OTTS also lists the basic components of the Russian Uni‑T. Such crossovers will receive four airbags, climate control, tire pressure sensors, electric drive and heated mirrors, as well as a sunroof. For a coupe-like golf-class crossover, this is already a stable “default” set, which should remain the same for Kaliningrad cars.

Additionally, dealers and the manufacturer itself indicate the presence of a modern multimedia complex with two screens, a proprietary set of driver assistants and a spectacular exterior with hidden door handles and an aggressive rear design - these elements are already familiar from the Chinese versions and will remain part of the Uni‑T image after localization.

Prices, current supplies and other Changan models from Avtotor

Judging by data from the official website of the brand and dealer sites, Uni-T 2024 models are now offered in Russia in two trim levels at prices of 3,239,900 and 3,309,900 rubles, while more recent 2025 cars are available in a single version for at least 3,459,900 rubles. The emergence of local assembly may help stabilize or slightly adjust prices, but the final pricing policy for “Kaliningraders” has not yet been disclosed.

Uni‑T is not the first Changan model to be registered on Avtotor: previously, for Russian production, OTTS was already issued for the CS35 Max and CS75 Plus crossovers, and the validity of these documents is also limited to April 2027. This horizon confirms that the current stage of cooperation between Changan and the Kaliningrad plant is considered as a temporary, albeit strategically important solution for the period of adaptation of the Chinese brand to the Russian market in new conditions.
