After famous car brands left Russia, the market was filled with Chinese cars. Many of them have already gained popularity among Russians, some even became their owners.
With the departure of Japanese, European and Korean automakers from Russia in 2022, Chinese companies quickly filled the vacated niche. As a result, 122 thousand new Chinese cars were sold in 2022, which was a record.
In 2023, sales of Chinese cars increased even more, exceeding 500 thousand new cars. On the streets of Russian cities there are noticeably more cars of brands such as Chery, Geely, Haval and others. Despite the growing popularity of Chinese cars, many Russians are still skeptical about them, doubting their reliability. You can find a lot of negative reviews on the Internet, and some owners express dissatisfaction after just a few months of use.
However, given the limited choice of new cars, many Russians have to purchase Chinese cars. At the same cost, they offer more options and comfort compared to domestic cars, which for 2.5 million rubles remain quite simple and expensive.
Last year, at a meeting of dealers, the problem of Chinese companies adapting to the Russian market was discussed. Chinese manufacturers are accustomed to large sales volumes in their homeland, which are achieved through price dumping and wars. But they are unlikely to be able to sell a million cars a year in Russia. Moreover, some brands, such as Skyvale, Oro, Oating, Haima, Avatar, Yan Wang, M-Hero, Yexlantics and Racing, may leave the Russian market due to high competition and low awareness among consumers.
