The Omoda C5 crossover received all-wheel drive in Russia and increased in price: what has changed

Omoda C5 in Russia acquired all-wheel drive and a new gearbox, and single-wheel drive versions increased in price by 50 thousand rubles, while maintaining the same basic price tag.

The advent of all-wheel drive and rising prices

Sales of the updated Omoda C5 crossover in Russia started in early March, but at first the model was only available in front-wheel drive. Now a new version with all-wheel drive and a different transmission has been added to the range, as evidenced by the updated price list on the brand’s official website.

At the same time, two of the three single-drive configurations have risen in price by 50 thousand rubles, which makes the update not only technical, but also price-wise. Such an adjustment reflects the model’s transition to a segment more rich in equipment and capabilities, while the base price tag was left unchanged.

Technology: new all-wheel drive, but more modest dynamics

If previously all-wheel drive versions of the Omoda C5 were equipped with a separate 1.6‑liter turbo engine producing 150 hp, now the AWD version uses the same 1.5‑liter engine with 147 hp as for the front-wheel drive versions. At the same time, the previous 6-speed “robot” was replaced with a 7-speed gearbox, which should make the operation of the unit smoother and more economical.

However, in terms of dynamics, the new version is noticeably inferior to the crossovers already familiar to buyers: acceleration to 100 km/h has increased to 11.5 seconds versus the previous 9.9 seconds for front-wheel drive with the same engine. The ground clearance has decreased by an additional 10 millimeters - to 180 mm, which slightly reduces the off-road potential, although all-wheel drive will still be sufficient for most owners for bad roads and winter conditions.

Prices and options: all-wheel drive only “at the top”

The new all-wheel drive modification Omoda C5 is available exclusively in the maximum “Style” configuration and has become the most expensive version of the model. For a crossover with all-wheel drive and a 7-speed “robot” they are asking 2,849,000 rubles, and the additional payment for these options relative to a similar front-wheel drive version is 150 thousand rubles.

Against the background of the appearance of the AWD version, prices for single-wheel drive configurations were also revised: “Drive” and “Style” with front-wheel drive increased in price by 50 thousand rubles and now cost 2,549,000 and 2,699,000 rubles, respectively. The basic Active package retained the same price - 2,349,000 rubles, remaining the entry ticket to the C5 line.

Context: redistribution of motors in the Omoda line

The released 1.6‑liter turbo engine with a power of 150 hp, which was previously installed on all-wheel drive versions of the C5, is now assigned to the larger Omoda C7 crossover. For it, during the localization process, an even more powerful modification with 186 hp is being prepared, and assembly is planned to be organized at the former Volkswagen plant in the Kaluga region.

Thus, Omoda is building a hierarchy of crossovers: the C5 relies on a more affordable all-wheel drive and a unified 1.5-liter engine, while the C7 becomes the carrier of more powerful power units and strengthens the brand’s positioning in the older segment.
