The Russian car market showed a growth of 15% in April, the positions of Lada, Haval and Tenet strengthened, and in the model standings the Tenet T7 crossover took second place, overtaking Haval Jolion.
According to estimates by the analytical agency Autostat, in April 2026, 117.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 15.1% more than in April last year. The Ministry of Industry and Trade gives a similar assessment and speaks of market growth of approximately 16% in annual terms.
Since the beginning of the year, according to Autostat, the market has added 9.6%, while the Ministry of Industry and Trade estimates growth for the first four months at 11%. The difference is explained by the methodology, but the general conclusion is the same: the new segment is growing confidently, and a significant part of the volume is provided by Chinese brands and their localized Russian “partners.”
Lada remains the brand leader: in April, Russians purchased 31.8 thousand cars of this brand, which is 11.8–12% more than a year earlier, while maintaining market share at last year’s level. Haval holds second place with a result of about 16.5 thousand cars and an increase in demand by more than a quarter.
The third place is occupied by the Russian-Chinese brand Tenet, which showed sales of approximately 12 thousand cars and gained a foothold in the region of 10% of the market. The top five also included Geely (6.8 thousand cars) and Belgee (about 5.7 thousand), with Belgee increasing sales by almost one and a half times in annual terms.
Among other brands in the top 10 were Changan, Jaecoo, Jetour, Toyota and Solaris. The most noticeable positive dynamics were shown by Jaecoo (plus about 74%) and Toyota (plus 70.1%), while a decline was recorded in Jetour (minus 9.4%) and Changan (minus 1.7%).
In the model rating, the Lada Granta remains the undisputed leader: 12,442 cars were sold in April, although in annual comparison this is minus 4.1%. The Tenet T7 crossover rose to second place, ahead of the Haval Jolion by about a thousand units: 7,639 vehicles versus 6,664, respectively.
The fourth and fifth positions were taken by Lada Vesta (6064 units) and Lada Niva Travel (4570), while it was Niva Travel that demonstrated one of the most confident positive dynamics - plus 47.4% compared to April last year. The top ten also included the Tenet T4 crossover, the new Lada Iskra, Haval M6 and Lada Niva Legend, while the Geely Monjaro closed the expanded top and showed a decrease in demand.
Таким образом, китайские кроссоверы и их локальные варианты уже закрепились в верхней части рейтинга, но «пьедестал» по‑прежнему делят между собой АвтоВАЗ и Tenet с Haval.
April statistics confirm: the Chinese factor remains key for the Russian car market. There are several brands from China in the top ten brands (Haval, Geely, Belgee, Changan, Jaecoo, Jetour), and the joint brand Tenet, using Chery platforms, consistently holds third place in the brand standings and second place among models thanks to T7.
At the same time, the total sales volume of new Chinese passenger cars in Russia at the end of April, according to separate studies, decreased by approximately 14% in annual terms - the result was influenced by the reorientation of some brands to local brands and a change in the structure of demand. Against this background, it is especially noteworthy that Tenet and Belgee continue to grow, while Haval and Jaecoo are showing strong growth, shifting the balance in favor of crossovers and hybrids of Chinese origin.
April showed that the Russian market for new passenger cars continues to recover and grow at double-digit rates, but the structure of this growth is changing. Lada holds the lead, but second and third places are confidently taken by Haval and Tenet, and in the model classification next to Granta and Vesta, Tenet T7 and Haval Jolion are entrenched.
For Chinese passenger cars, this means further strengthening of their positions: they form the bulk of growth in the mass segment, especially among crossovers and compact SUVs. In the coming months, competition for places in the top 10, including new local brands and fresh models from China, will most likely only intensify.
