The new Changan CS55 Plus has become a hybrid with a power reserve of 1220 kilometers

When people started talking about hybrids in the 2020s, many imagined a gasoline car with a small battery and a modest electric motor - for a couple of kilometers in a traffic jam. But Chinese engineers went further. They didn't just add "a little electricity" - they reinvented the very idea of ​​a hybrid. And the clearest example of this is the new Changan CS55 Plus, which in 2025 surprised not with engine power or design, but with a phenomenal power reserve - 1220 kilometers on one tank.

Yes, you heard right: one thousand two hundred and twenty kilometers. This is more than the distance from Moscow to Kazan and back. And all this - without recharging, without searching for charging stations, without compromises. How is this possible?

The secret is in the Blue Whale iDD (intelligent Dual Drive) technology, which Changan has been developing for several years and is now introducing into mass models. This is not a classic parallel hybrid like Toyota, and not a 48-volt unit like the Europeans. This is a plug-in hybrid with the ability to drive on pure electricity for up to 120 km, and if necessary, switch to a gasoline engine, which acts as a power plant, recharging the battery and maintaining constant efficiency.

Under the hood of the new CS55 Plus is a 1.5-liter turbo engine paired with an electric motor and an 18.4-kilowatt-hour lithium phosphate battery. Together they produce 250 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque - more than enough for dynamic starts and confident overtaking. But the main thing is a smart transmission without a classic gearbox. Instead, there is a single-stage gearbox and an intelligent energy flow control system, which itself decides: to drive on electricity, connect the engine or charge the battery on the go.

Result? In the city cycle, with a charged battery, you can go a week without visiting a gas station. And on a trip to the country or to another city - refuel once and forget about gas stations for two days. At the same time, consumption in mixed mode is only 4.2–4.5 liters per 100 km, which makes the CS55 Plus one of the most economical crossovers in its class.

But Changan did not stop at the power plant. The new CS55 Plus received an updated design in the style of “minimalistic technology”: frameless headlights, hidden door handles, and a panoramic roof. Two 12.3-inch screens, wireless charging, digital instrumentation with 3D graphics, a voice control system without buttons and even a head-up display - all this is now available even in the basic version.

And also adaptation to Russian realities: reinforced suspension, pre-heater, increased ground clearance (190 mm), a full set of safety systems (AEB, ACC, LKA, BSD) and, of course, a galvanized body. Changan clearly takes into account the sad experience of the “first waves” of Chinese cars and relies on long-term reliability.

It is also important that the CS55 Plus is not a “gray” import: it is supplied to Russia officially, with a guarantee of 6 years or 200,000 km, and the dealer network already operates in 30+ cities. This is not an experiment - this is a serious step into the mass market.
