Haval explained the temporary refusal of the diesel version of the H9 in Russia: the reason is difficulties with certification according to Euro-5 standards and interruptions in the supply of components.
After the updated Haval H9 frame SUV returned to the Russian market, many fans of the model noted with alarm: only a gasoline engine remained in the lineup. The diesel version, which was in steady demand due to its high traction and efficiency, disappeared from dealer offers. Now Haval officials have finally explained the reasons for this decision.
As reported by the company’s press service, the abandonment of the diesel engine is temporary and is associated with two key factors:
— difficulties in passing certification according to the environmental standards in force in Russia (Euro-5), adapted for imported engines;
— interruptions in the supply of components for the turbodiesel power plant due to changes in global supply chains.
“We continue to work on restoring the diesel version of the H9 for the Russian market. Technically, the car is ready, but additional time is required to approve documents and establish stable supplies,” the company said.
At the moment, only a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with 224 hp is available to customers. and a torque of 385 Nm paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Despite the lack of a diesel engine, the SUV has retained everything for which it is valued: a frame chassis, all-wheel drive with a reduction gear, a rear differential lock, a ground clearance of 206 mm and a seven-seater interior.
In addition, the gasoline version is better adapted to the fuel quality in the regions and demonstrates more predictable behavior at low temperatures - an important advantage for Russian conditions.
Haval confirms that the diesel version of the H9 could return as early as 2026, if ongoing administrative and logistical issues can be resolved. In the meantime, the brand is betting that even in the petrol version, the H9 remains one of the most affordable and true body-on-frame SUVs on the market - especially against the backdrop of the departure of competitors.
Thus, abandoning diesel is not a strategic decision, but a forced pause. And for those who have been waiting for the return of the “Chinese Land Cruiser”, the H9 is still a worthy choice.
