Prices for the updated Haval H9 have been announced in China: it has become more passable

Haval has updated the H9 frame SUV for the Chinese market: the model has fallen in price, received modified geometry, new optics and a more advanced interior, becoming even more suitable for off-road use.

Prices and general update concept

The Haval brand has introduced a modernized version of the H9 frame SUV to the Chinese market, focusing on improving cross-country ability and upgrading equipment. Due to the appearance of new basic configurations, the model has become noticeably cheaper: now the H9 in China costs from 199,900 to 247,900 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 2.18–2.7 million rubles at the current exchange rate. For a large frame, this is a serious argument, especially against the backdrop of growing competition from other Chinese SUVs.

The update cannot be called a revolution - the platform and power units have been preserved, but important elements have been brought to a more modern level. As a result, buyers are offered a familiar H9 concept, but with better geometry, improved lighting technology and fresh “digital” in the cabin.

Passability: higher ground clearance and “off-road” numbers

The main functional result of modernization is an increase in off-road capabilities. The body of the Haval H9 has become 20 millimeters higher, and this directly affected the ground clearance: the ground clearance has increased to 226 mm, which is even slightly more than the current Russian version, which is stated to be up to 224 mm. For a frame SUV, which is often used off-pavement, such a reserve under the bottom is an important advantage.

The angles of geometric cross-country ability have also changed. The approach angle now reaches 32 degrees, the departure angle is 26 degrees, and the ford depth has increased to 800 mm. These are the parameters that allow the H9 to feel confident on serious off-road conditions: small river beds, muddy country roads and deep ruts become less critical for the owner.

Appearance and lighting technology: darkening and brighter light

On the outside, the updated H9 can be recognized by the darkened body trim: there is less chrome decor, and more dark accents have appeared in the trim. This approach makes the image more brutal and visually “tightens” the SUV into the current style of the brand, where dark packages have long become the norm.

Special emphasis is placed on optics. The SUV received new headlights, which have improved luminosity by one and a half times at distances of up to 100 meters and increased the range of the light beam by approximately 27%. This not only adds comfort when driving at night, but also increases safety on highways and forest roads, where high-quality low and high beams are critical.

Interior: larger screen and new Coffee OS 3

There are fewer changes in the interior of the Haval H9, but they are noticeable. The SUV received a new trim option in red tones, which adds emotion and visually refreshes the interior. The steering wheel has been improved from an ergonomic point of view - the shape of the rim and the location of the controls have been changed to make it more convenient to use in everyday driving and when wearing gloves.

The central display of the media system has grown from 14.6 to 15.6 inches. The screen has become brighter and more contrasty, and most importantly, it has received a new software platform, Coffee OS 3. This shell is responsible for smoother menu operation, enhanced personalization, updated graphics and support for modern online services. An automatic parking attendant has been added to the package of electronic assistants, which is especially important for a large frame truck in cramped yards and parking lots.

Engines and gearboxes: no radical changes

From the point of view of the power unit, the Haval H9 for the Chinese market remained faithful to proven solutions. The range includes two engines:
- 2.0‑liter petrol turbo engine with 224 hp;
- 2.4‑liter diesel (characteristics depend on the version, but in any case it is a high-torque unit for difficult conditions).

Both options come with all-wheel drive, but the type of transmission differs. The petrol version is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel version is combined with a 9-speed gearbox. Together, this provides a wide range of gears, allowing you to confidently move both on the highway and off-road using a low range and electronic assistants.

Russian context: other priorities and prices

The Haval H9 had already been updated on the Russian market at the beginning of the year, but the focus was different. Here, the SUV received the Yandex Auto media platform with the integration of branded services and voice control, as well as a number of local improvements, including anti-corrosion protection and updated configurations. At the same time, the Russian line lost its diesel version: Haval explained this step by a sharp drop in demand associated with changes in recycling collection and rising costs of diesel modifications.

As a result, the Haval H9 in Russia now costs from 4,799,000 to 5,299,000 rubles - noticeably more expensive than on the home market, even taking into account duties and logistics. Against this background, the Chinese H9, which has become more off-road and at the same time received a more affordable price tag, looks like a particularly attractive example of how quickly Chinese brands are developing and adapting their frame SUVs to the needs of the local audience.
