Xpeng announced the price of the flagship crossover GX: electric version and hybrid at one rate

Xpeng has opened pre-orders for the flagship GX crossover with electric and hybrid powertrains, setting a single starting price of 399,800 yuan.

Flagship Xpeng GX: start of pre-orders and price

Xpeng has opened pre-orders for the new large GX crossover, which will become the brand’s flagship in the home market. At the start, two types of power plants are offered - all-electric and hybrid, but so far only a single price has been officially announced for one rich configuration of each option.

The cost of the electric car and the hybrid is the same and amounts to 399,800 yuan, which in terms of rubles is approximately 4.4 million. With this price tag, Xpeng immediately brings the GX into the premium segment and puts it on par with competitors such as the Lixiang L9 and other large Chinese electric SUVs.

Dimensions, format and positioning

Xpeng interprets the name GX as Great Xplore - “Great Exploration” or “Great Journey,” emphasizing the long-range and family nature of the model. The crossover has impressive dimensions: a length of about 5265 mm, a wheelbase of 3115 mm, and is offered exclusively with a three-row interior, designed for comfortable trips with a large family or for business purposes.

In terms of silhouette and proportions, the GX is vaguely reminiscent of premium European SUVs like Range Rover, which should play into the hands of the brand’s image in the high price segment. At the same time, Xpeng directly names among its key competitors the hybrid flagship Lixiang L9, which has already managed to gain a foothold in the market of large family crossovers.

Two power plants: hybrid and electric car

GX enters the market in two technical guises at once: as a long-size hybrid with the ability to drive for a long time on electric power, and as an all-electric SUV with an increased power reserve.

The hybrid version combines two electric motors with 218 and 286 hp. with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 150 hp, working mainly as a generator. This configuration allows you to travel up to 430 kilometers on electric power alone, and the total range reaches 1,585 kilometers - a figure comparable to traditional long-distance diesel SUVs.

The electric modification uses the same 218-horsepower motor on the front axle, but the rear electric motor is noticeably more powerful and develops 367 hp. Depending on the battery version, this GX can cover from 635 to 750 kilometers without recharging on the Chinese CLTC cycle, which makes it one of the longest-range production electric crossovers on the market.

Interior, comfort and smart technologies

The Xpeng GX's interior is built around the concept of a "smart living room on wheels" with an emphasis on digital services and comfort for all three rows. The equipment includes first and second row seats with 16-position adjustments and 16-point massage, which brings the crossover closer to business class standards.

The central place is occupied by a 17.3‑inch display of the multimedia system, complemented by other screens for rear passengers. The audio system includes 33 speakers and supports spatial sound, emphasizing the premium status of the flagship. The crossover makes extensive use of elements of artificial intelligence - from advanced driver assistants to intelligent scenarios in the cabin that adapt light, sound and climate to the owner's habits.

GX value for Xpeng brand

The launch of the large GX crossover should consolidate Xpeng's presence in the new full-size premium SUV segment for the brand, while simultaneously strengthening the overall brand awareness against the backdrop of fierce competition. The model becomes Xpeng's most expensive and technologically rich car and is seen as an important step in winning over an audience focused on comfort, range and digital services.

Against this background, the contrast with the brand’s more mass-produced models is especially noticeable: it was recently reported that in order to increase sales, Xpeng was forced to simplify the equipment of the P7 electric liftback and reduce its cost. The GX, on the contrary, demonstrates the opposite approach - maximum technology and comfort at a premium price, designed to compete with the leading players in the Chinese and global large crossover market.
